Raul Ibanez: Hero of the Day

In a 12-inning affair that should have never lasted that long, the Yankees put themselves within one step of clinching the division and thus avoiding the "Wild Card Play-In Sudden Death Elimination Match".  Many thanks to pinch-hitting slugger Raul Ibanez for saving us from a day of what-ifing and commiserating our misfortune.  With two swings of the bat, he trivialized issues like Tex hitting 4th over Robbie, Tex hitting into multiple DPs, Tex going 0-6, the Yankees leaving 14 (FOURTEEN!!) runners on base, and Soriano giving up a 5th HR in his last 15 outings.

Tonight Girardi will give the ball to Hiroki Kuroda, this season's most consistent starter.  He'll be charged with two tasks: securing the division (literal) and launching New York into the playoffs with the confidence befitting a champion (figurative).  Admittedly the latter is heavy handed but the team that wins this World Series will not be the most talented but or the most experienced.  Rather, this year's champion will be the team with the most momentum, (just ask the 2011 Cardinals).  A win tonight could be the catalyst needed to propel New York to World Series title #28.
